The Upper Camp is uniquely designed to meet the needs of middle school children, ages 8-14. The Upper Camp is divided into 2 groups for children ages 8-10 and 10-14. Campers may choose from a variety of exciting program offerings. Each program will have a focus, and will also participate in unit and camp programs, including swimming, field trips, and games.
Upper Camp swims at the Barnard College pool during Session 1, and at a private pool in Riverdale during Session 2. Each group swims twice a week with the option of having an additional swim on Wednesdays. During their semiweekly swim, half of the time is spent on instruction, while the other half is organized free swim.

New for Session 1 only:
(ages 8-10) This program expands on themes developed in the Lower Camp Visual Arts program such as self-expression, visual literacy, and creativity. Campers will be given the opportunity to explore the visual arts with museum educators from a wide array of New York City's fine art institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney, and MoMA.
(ages 8-10) The Upper Camp science program is a collaboration with the New York Hall of Science. Campers and counselors will work once a week with educators from the NYHS on exciting projects meant to stimulate the imagination and generate scientific curiosity about the world around us. This year they will explore a number of other science museums including the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey. Some of the topics explored have been digital claymation, animation, DNA, science of sports and polymers.
(ages 8-14) 5-week comprehensive program (Session 2) assists participants in understanding, appreciating, preparing, and performing theatrical works by the great bard. Performances are at the end of each session, where families and the entire camp community are welcome to attend!

(ages 9-14) In addition to plot writing, campers will explore technology in the following venues:
(ages 8-14) A summer sports extravaganza! Campers will improve team sports skills and build confidence in an encouraging, fun environment. This program will combine both single gender and co-ed games, drills and activities centered on basketball, soccer, and other team sports. Free time will also be set aside for campers to engage in games like badminton, kickball, and newcomb (to name just a few).
Ricky Forde is the Athletic Director for Summer Camp. He is also a gym teacher for the School for Children. Ricky feels that athletic competition (in the form of scrimmages), in addition to the goal setting agendas of drills, brings a sense of anticipated excitement, team work, and team spirit to the children, and thus the camp.
(Travel Camp) (ages 10-14)
During the week of August 2-6, campers will embark on daily trips to Liberty Science Center, a Sculpture Garden, Hudson River Museum, and the Rubin Museum, to do a virtual hike up Mount Everest. Specific program to follow
During the weeks of August 2-6 and August 9-13 (campers will return home during the weekend, or attend one week or the other), campers will enjoy a four night stay at Club Getaway in Kent, CT.
