The policies contained in this section apply to all faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and guests of Bank Street College who use the Bank Street Web.

General Principles for Internet Development
The Bank Street Web may not be used in any manner prohibited by federal, state, or local law or disallowed by licenses, contracts, or college regulations, including (but not limited to): - the general computing policies as outlined in the College Computer Network: acceptable use policy and Statement.; and - general college policies contained in the current printed versions of the Student Handbook, the Bank Street College Catalog, faculty handbooks, and staff and personnel handbooks. Use of the Bank Street Web must be related to the mission, goals, and functions of the College. Guidelines pertaining to the visual appearance of official College materials are the responsibility of the College Publications Office and must be followed for electronic publications just as they would be for any other publication. The Bank Street Web employs a content management system with standard formats to clearly identify the pages as a Bank Street Home Page and provide easy navigation within the site. Custom designed websites are not hosted on www.bankstreet.edu. Certain required elements must appear on every page. These are: - Name and e-mail address of the Page Editor or contact person. - Last revision date, frequency with which the information is updated, or expiration date. - Disclaimer: When official web materials include specific requirements whose official version is printed document, a notice must be included on that page stating that the final, official, or legal version of the requirements is the aforementioned printed document, and the user should refer to that primary document as the ultimate authority. Consistent with personnel policies, those who develop and maintain web materials should have these responsibilities included in their job descriptions.

Copyright and Intellectual Property
Materials that are owned by others may not be placed on web pages without the expressed permission of the owner. Assume that materials published on the internet by others are protected by copyright unless a disclaimer or waiver is expressly stated. (See www.aimnet.com/~carroll/copyright/faq-home.html for more resources on copyright issues.) The Bank Street Web is an official publication of Bank Street College of Education. Unless otherwise indicated, all text and photographs appearing on the Home Page or subsequent official pages linked to it are copyrighted and should not be reproduced without written permission from an appropriate College official.

Privacy
The usage of personal and identifying information on official pages is restricted to that allowed by federal, state, and local laws and by college standards for print publications. In particular, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law which requires the College to maintain the confidentiality of student records, subject to various exceptions. The use of personal information that identifies individual students is prohibited. Pictures, video, audio, or personal information of or about a person or persons may not be used without the subject(s)¢â¡Ás expressed permission, particularly if the publication is to be used for commercial purposes. The Page Editor should obtain signed release forms granting permission.

Software Piracy Policy
It is the policy of Bank Street College to utilize all commercially purchased software in accordance with its individual licensing agreement. Unless otherwise noted in the license, any duplication of copyrighted computer software is contrary to Bank Street's standard of conduct.

Advertising
The Bank Street Web does not permit commercial advertising on any of its pages. The College may consider recognition and sponsorship of external funding partners.

Commercial Activities
The Bank Street Web may not be used by faculty, staff, students, alumni, or guests for profit-making ventures or on behalf of external organizations or persons unless such use is directly related to the goals and functions of the College and approved by the Vice President of Instututional Advancement.

Inappropriate Materials
Official electronic publications may not contain or link directly to electronic documents which contain inappropriate material. Any official Bank Street electronic publication which itself contains no offensive information is considered inappropriate if it links directly to an electronic document which does contain offensive material.

Availability
All electronic publications whose use is required in order to conduct College business or complete instructional activities must be accessible to people with disabilities or alternative methods must be made available to complete the same tasks. Bank Street strongly encourages publications be made as accessible as possible even when it is not required to do so.
