Student Work: Developmental Analysis of Children's Art

For the following four pictures we chose to explain them using the universal theory of drawing.

We believe this picture represents the first part in universal drawing stages, where kids scribble, where the child is making strokes with different colors, and they are drawing to see what they can produce.

We believe this represents the stage of universal drawing development where the circular line encloses an inside area that seems more solid to the child than the field it is on, indicating that the drawing is clearly representing something.

We believe this picture represents the universal stage of drawing, where children 3-4 years draw what they know about the objects in their pictures and not what they see with their own eyes. For example, this could be the child’s family. We thought the object on the right could be something with a handle on it.

We believe this picture represents the last stage of universal development in drawing, where kids not only represent what they see but they do so more realistically. For example the arms in this picture are drawn with specific colors, unlike the previous picture and the scene could be a soccer field.
