The Linguistic Power of Folkgames

Two faculty members teaching EDUC 561: Lingusitics: Implications for Teachers and EDUC 574: Folklore in the Classroom, collaborated to plan instruction that would use folkgames as an example to model and provide supports for oral language development recognizing and valuing prior knowledge and cultural and linguistic expressions in the classroom as well as emphasizing the importance of oral language as the foundation for literacy skills.

The course assignment asked students to document the process of teaching a folkgame with images and audio recordings and present it in PowerPoint along with a linguistic analysis.
