LABS
Mac and PC Labs
There is one Mac and one PC lab on the first floor available for student use on a drop-in basis. These labs are shared with the School for Children students and teachers who have priority use of the labs until 3:00.
Lab hours for graduate students (unless the lab is scheduled for a course- please check the doors of the labs for a weekly schedule):
M-TH: 3:00-10:00
FRI: 3:00-4:00
SAT: 9:00-5:00
These labs can be used to:
- Word Process
- Use Inspiration software
- Create PowerPoint presentations
- Access the Internet and e-mail
- Design web pages with Netscape Composer & Dreamweaver
- Edit images in Adobe PhotoShop Elements
- Scan images and documents (Mac Lab only)
Multimedia Lab
The Multimedia Lab on the 7th floor is available for multimedia course-related projects. (It is not for straightforward word processing or web browsing.) The Help Desk is next door for assistance and additional equipment.
Drop-in hours for graduate students:
M-FRI: 3:00-6:00pm
For other lab times, please make an appointment through the Center by calling 212-875-4524.
This lab can be used to:
- Create PowerPoint presentations
- Edit digital video using Apple's iMovie and Final Cut Pro software
- Edit images in Adobe PhotoShop Elements
- Edit audio using Felt Tip's Sound Studio software
- Scan images and documents
- Burn CD-Roms & DVD-Roms
- Dub videotapes

"HOW TO" LIBRARY
The Bank Street website contains helpful information about Computer Services at Bank Street including a library of How To documents that you can dowload. From the homepage, go to "Services for Staff" and then click on "Helpdesk" in the navigation bar on the left. You will then see a link to the "How To" section. PEER HELP FROM TECHNOLOGY FELLOWS
Four Technology Fellows (graduate students like you) work with us to help facilitate technology projects. They are available to help you with any of the technology that you use in your courses by appointment only. You can see photos of this year's technology fellows on the technology bulletin board on the 6th floor and at the Center for Urban Teacher Education and Technology in the C8 office suite on the C level. To schedule an appointment with a Tech Fellow, contact the Center's Project Assistant at 212-875-4524 or come to the Center in room C8 on the cafeteria level.

BORROWING EQUIPMENT
Equipment may be borrowed via a faculty member (i.e., a faculty member signs it out for your use) for technology projects that are associated with a course or advisement. To borrow equipment, contact the Center's Project Assistant at 212-875-4524 or come to the Center in room C8 on the cafeteria level. It is helpful to call ahead to reserve the equipment you need.
The equipment available includes:
- Digital video cameras
- Digital still cameras
- Headphones and External microphones
- Tripods
- Digital and Analog audio recorders
- External floppy drives
- External hard drives and Flash drives

TECHNOLOGY IN THE LIBRARY
There are eight computer terminals in the main library which may be used for research only. In addition, the Library provides five terminals at which word processing and Internet access for e-mail are available and four research terminals in the children's room. Several of the terminals may also be used to view CD-ROM programs or to view and listen to online media. Headphones are available at the circulation desk. In addition, the Library has two stations for videotape viewing as well as a text enlarger for visually impaired users. Reference librarians are happy to provide assistance. Attending a library orientation session is a mandatory requirement for all graduate students at Bank Street College. The sessions last forty-five minutes and include a library tour and an introduction to conducting research.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
How do I get a Bank Street e-mail account?
Fill out an E-mail Request Form. You can get one from the Computing and Information Services office in room 705 or from the Center for Urban Teacher Education and Technology in room C8, on the C-Level.
Can I borrow a computer?
No, we do not have computers to lend to students, though we do have other technology equipment available at the Center for Urban Teacher Education and Technology in room C8. See BORROWING EQUIPMENT.
Can I be wireless?
No. The College is working on this issue. However, wireless Internet access is not available at this time.
Can I save my work on the computers in the labs?
No. Everything must be stored on a portable device. Please do not leave any files on the lab computers. Files left on the Mac and PC lab computers are deleted daily. Files left on the computers in the Multimedia Lab will be deleted as space is needed for other projects without notice.
Can I download software?
You may not download software onto the College's computers. You may download free software to your own portable storage device.
Can I buy a computer through the College?
No. We recommend that you check Apple for Educators on the Apple web site for special deals for educators.
Can I buy software through the College?
No.
How do I get help on a piece of software?
There is documentation on several different pieces of software in each of the labs. You may also schedule an appointment (preferably in groups of two or more) with a Technology Fellow. See PEER HELP FROM TECHNOLOGY FELLOWS.
