Our History
The Center for Early Childhood Professionals formerly known as the Center for Universal Pre-K, has been working with the early childhood community in New York City since the fall of 1999. In 2001 we broadened our scope to include a wide variety of initiatives serving children birth through age 8:
- As an approved Early Childhood Professional Development and Family Literacy Contractor for the New York City DOE, the Center for ECP works with administrators, social workers, teaching staff and families in all five boroughs. As a partner in Quality New York: a National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Project, which supports and assists community based programs working to earn accreditation, ECP has provided training in developmentally appropriate practice, aligned with accreditation criteria to over 180 programs during the last five years.
- As a partner with Newark Public Schools ECP in Newark has helped to restructure public school environments for children four years through eight, provided comprehensive professional development services for early childhood teachers and administrators district wide and improved student outcomes in both literacy and math.
- As a United States Department of Education grantee, ECP's Community of Learners Project provided three years of intensive training and on-site mentoring to 28 classrooms in 11 UPK programs in the Bronx.
