Curriculum at the Family Center is based largely on the activities of daily living. When we talk of our curriculum, we are referring to the environment, people, and routines as well as specific activities. The Bank Street developmental-interaction approach to education stresses the importance of materials in the classroom and favors some kinds of materials over others. It also suggests the role of the teachers in the room as facilitators of learning. Although teachers will bring their own expertise and interests to their classrooms, it is important that they familiarize themselves with Bank Street's philosophy. The following are some brief guidelines for setting up basic activities. For a more complete explanation, teachers are encouraged to consult the Library and courses in the Graduate School.
