What happens after I graduate?

Bank Street will always be your professional home. Department chairs and advisors are always ready, willing and able to help graduates stay connected to Bank Street. Don't hesitate to contact yours about networking, jobs, etc. There are also a number of alumni/ae groups that you can get involved in; contact the Alumni Association to find out how. You will also still be able to use the Library; contact Carol Van Houten to find out more.

I need to get fingerprinted. How do I go about doing this?

All applicants for employment with the New York City Department of Education must be fingerprinted. For more information about the fingerprinting process - where you get it done, identification you need to bring with you, and more - visit the Teach NY Web page. You can also call the Personnel Office at 718-935-2668. The New York State Department of Education also has a Web site, the Office of Teaching Initiatives.

How do I find a job post-Bank Street?

Bank Street has a Career Services Office that will help you in many different ways. They offer services and events such as resume writing, interviewing skills, job fairs, etc. You may also want to check out the classified listings through Web sites such as Idealist.org, or local and national newspapers, including the New York Times.

How can I get some part-time babysitting jobs?

Two great places to both post your interest in finding part-time babysitting work and contact people looking for babysitters are through Urban Baby and Craig's List. These message boards have a wealth of information about working with children.

How can I find a job teaching or tutoring?

Often, the chairs of various departments have connections and leads to both teaching and tutoring jobs. Contact your chair (or program director) and let them know that you are interested in finding work. Of course, there is also the Career Services Office, which publishes a Job Bulletin throughout the year. Susan Levine will help you navigate the multitude of resources that are available for students who want to find work.
