Bank Street College invites applications for the

National Fellows Program in Special Education Leadership

Bank Street College of Education is pleased to invite applications for the second cohort of our National Fellows Program in Special Education Leadership. Applications (see below) must be submitted to our Admissions Office by January 31, 2008. Decisions will be announced by March 14, 2008.

We are seeking candidates with exceptional leadership promise. Applicants should be special education teachers (or related service providers) with a minimum of three years of full-time professional experience. We particularly encourage applicants from groups that have been historically underrepresented in school leadership positions. Ten fellowships will be awarded.

This program is an initiative of Bank Street's Educational Leadership and Special Education departments, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Its goal is to increase the capacity of urban public school leaders to strengthen instruction for all learners in inclusive environments. We believe that all children benefit when schools are led by educators who deeply understand the needs and strengths of diverse learners.

Fellows complete a Master's Degree in Bank Street's Leadership for Educational Change: Focus on Special Education program, which leads to New York State School Building Leader certification. Qualified Fellows may also pursue School District Leadership certification. The two-year program begins in September 2008.

Fellowships cover approximately 90 percent of the tuition for the 36-credit program. In return for this support, the federal grant requires Fellows to commit to four years of service as leaders or teacher leaders in a public school setting.

To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must apply for admission and for the fellowship by January 31, 2008:
