Process Pedagogy:

The Teaching Methods of the National Dance Institute & the Implication for the Teaching/Learning Process

Dates: July 7-July 18, 2008 (9:00 am to noon)
This is a Summer 2 2008 course, available for 1 graduate credit or for no credit with a $500 fee.*
See Registration information here: http://www.bankstreet.edu/gs/reg_procedures.html

This one-week institute is open to general and special education teachers and arts educators. A background in dance is not required. Offered in collaboration with the National Dance Institute (NDI), an exemplary arts education program founded by Jacques d'Amboise, former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, the course provides teachers and arts educators with the opportunity to observe and participate alongside children 8-to-12 years of age in a dance program that will culminate in an ensemble performance.

The term process pedagogy was conceived by Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch, renowned early childhood educator and founder of the American Montessori movement, to characterize the teaching methods of the National Dance Institute. The dance experience will serve as a "text" for teachers to think about the teaching/learning process across disciplines and grade levels.

The institute includes daily dance classes, observation of children, seminars with the Bank Street instructor, debriefings with the NDI teaching artists, and a culminating performance before a live audience.
