Master of Science in Education: 40 credits
This program has been designed for those who are excited to explore innovative ways of teaching math at the elementary school or middle school levels. This program is a Professional Certification program, just right for those with initial certification who hope to continue teaching in their own classrooms or who want to become math coaches and staff developers.

Earn your master's degree in just over two years by completing course work during July sessions for three summers and graduating at the end of the third July. During the two intervening academic years, you≠ll return to your own classroom at your current school site, where a Bank Street College faculty advisor will work with you on your professional growth and development. Through collaboration with your Bank Street advisor and other graduate students, you will develop your skills as a teacher and math coach, modeling creative ways to engage children fully in mathematical reasoning.

You will develop skills to help you and your fellow teachers collaborate on curriculum planning, instructional approaches, and new assessment strategies in mathematics. You will become a resource for other staff members within your school who are interested in increasing their skills in mathematics instruction.

Certification
The program offers Professional Certification in Childhood or Middle Childhood Education to those who hold NYS initial certification.

Supervised Fieldwork/Advisement
During the two intervening academic years (between the summer terms), students engage in guided field assignments at their home sites. Through supervised fieldwork/advisement, students practice leadership activities in their work settings and, with guidance, synthesize theory and practice.

Admissions Requirements
Most prospective graduate students are experienced teachers. Preference is given to those who have been teaching for at least two years.

Life in New York
