National Alliance for Family, Friend and Neighbor Care

The National Alliance for Family, Friend and Neighbor Child Care (NAFFNCC) is a work group of individuals and organizations that share a common interest in Family, Friend, and Neighbor child care. It consists of a diverse group of practitioners, researchers, and policy makers who are at the forefront of work in this field. NAFFNCC aims to:

  • Influence policies for family friend and neighbor care;
  • Enhance caregivers' access to services;
  • Increase awareness of the role that family, friend and neighbor child care plays in the child care system.

  • History

    In 1999 the Institute for a Child Care Continuum at Bank Street College of Education convened a meeting of representatives of 13 flagship programs from across the country. In the following years, there were 3 national meetings in conjunction with National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) Annual Conference. In 2005, the informal steering committee that had coordinated the meetings decided to create a more formal network, and NAFFNCC was established.

    Current NAFFNCC Activities

  • Coordination of the annual meetings of researcher, practitioners, and policy makers.
  • A FAQ on family, friend and neighbor child care and a list of resources on the Institute for a Child Care Continuum's website, www.bankstreet.edu/iccc.
  • A special issue of the Bank Street Occasional Paper Series, Perspectives on Family, Friend and Neighbor Child Care: Research, Programs and Policy.
