Traveling Abroad
The I-LEAD program believes that it is important for our scholars to travel abroad so that they can expand upon their views and to see themselves as a part of a larger community. I-LEAD is partnering with two organizations that focus on community service projects and cultural immersion. |

We have developed strong partnerships with the following organizations:
The Experiment in International Living offers a cultural immersion programs in 26 countries around the globe. Six scholars will become part of daily life in another culture, where, for three to five weeks, they focus on themes such as community service, language study, ecology, travel, or the arts. The centerpiece of the program is the home stay -- based on the belief that the best way to build communication skills and understand another culture is to live as a member of one of its families.
The YMCA - Global Teens Travel Abroad Program: Scholars live and work with their overseas counterparts and travel in small groups to complete community service projects. For example, scholars who go to Mexico help run summer day camp programs in rural communities and in northern Thailand where they assist with environmental education programs. |
AFS Intercultural Programs - AFS is a leader in intercultural learning and offers international exchange programs in over 50 countries around the world. AFS provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. AFS' one to three month summer programs focus on homestays, language skills, community service or cultural activities. Participants mostly live with host families, participate in educational activities, and enjoy their new communities.
