
Since 1997, The Institute for a Child Care Continuum at Bank Street
College has been engaged in work with family, friends, and neighbors
who provide child care for other people's children. Its new effort, the
National Kith and Kin Child Care Initiative aims to achieve acceptance
of kith and kin child care as an integral part of the child care system.
Objectives

- To inform policy decisions about
kith and kin care
Goals for 1999-2000
- A national meeting of practitioners
who work with kith and kin caregivers to discuss lessons learned
- A series of briefing papers
about good practice for work with kith and kin caregivers
- A national meeting of policy
makers and practitioners to identify policy issues related to kith and
kin child care
