Strategies for Successful Readers and Writers

 

Successful readers and writers need to learn and practice a number of strategies to use Before, During, and After Reading.

Pre-Reading Strategies Include:

Activating Background Knowledge
Making predictions and previewing a book
Doing a Picture Walk
Forming purpose for reading and writing
Making a KWL map
Questioning and making predictions about a story

Using specific strategies and techniques to figure out words

Post-Reading Strategies Include:

Story retelling all or part of a story
