Teacher Leader Academy

Mission Statement
The Teacher Leader Academy was created to develop a continuum of leadership that supports the identification and preparation of teacher leaders. Teacher leaders commit to develop model classrooms that reflect best practice and are used as a resource by the school community.

Program Description

A 15-credit certificate program in Teacher Leadership
Primary emphasis on strengthening instruction and facilitating the change process through collaborative and targeted staff development
Advanced content area development and curriculum mapping
Creating Instructional Learning Communities
Managing Assessment and Data for Learning
Accelerating the achievement of traditionally underserved students including ELL students
Partial scholarship provided

Requirements

Appropriate for teachers who seek to improve instruction and student achievement in formal or informal teacher leader roles
Minimum three years of exemplary teaching experience and state certification required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Students participate in coursework, advisement, conference group, and other activities aimed at achieving program goals. Coursework is augmented by other activities, such as group meetings, seminars, and classroom visits. Teacher Leader graduates may opt to apply for the Principals Institute masters degree program.
