NBPTS Seminars

Mission Statement

Since 1987, The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) has worked to support the professionalization of teaching and the development of high standards as a venue for improving teacher competency and increasing student learning. Bank Street College will provide coaching seminars for NBPTS candidates. Accomplished teachers who receive the NBPTS credential are encouraged to mentor others seeking National Board certification. Bank Street College is committed to working with National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and candidates to support the community of accomplished teachers.

The NBPTS has established five core propositions that guide this work:

  1. Teachers are committed to students and their learning.
  2. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
  3. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
  4. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.
  5. Teachers are members of learning communities.
