About New Perspectives
For more than thirty years teachers and education leaders have come to New Perspectives at Bank Street College to find their inspiration in weekend doses. Here are some of the reasons why educators across the country and internationally turn to us for professional support.
A Nexus for Teaching and Learning: New Perspectives courses are designed for teachers, administrators, artists-in-residence in the schools, childcare staff, parents and others working with children and youth. Our courses explore an array of topics in Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School Education, Special Education, Human Development and Supervision and Administration.
Quality Professional Development: Theory meets practice in our interactive courses. Small class size and varied formats create a rich stimulating learning environment. Our instructors include some of the most respected specialists and practitioners in the world of education and child development.
Convenient Format: Courses are offered in a weekend format during the school year, and in a 1, 2, 3, or 4 weekday format during the summer. New courses start each week.
Credit and Non-Credit: New Perspectives courses are offered for graduate credit and no credit as indicated. Students may earn one credit in one weekend and two credits in two weekends. Readings and a paper are required for credit.
New York and New Jersey Professional Development Hours: New Perspectives courses are recognized by the New York and New Jersey Education Departments as qualifying for the 125 and 100 clock hours of professional development, respectively.
Do You Need New Teacher Credit? Most New Perspectives courses and workshops satisfy requirements for New Teacher Hours. Check course descriptions or call 212/875.4649 for a current list of qualifying courses and workshops.
Tuition Reduction for Members of Professional Associations: Active members of professional associations will receive a 30% tuition reduction for courses taken for credit. Simply enclose a photocopy of the association identification with registration. Association member rate is $740 per credit. NB: Reduction applies to tuition only, not materials or registration fees.
Easy to Register: You may register by mail, fax, or in person. Classes are filled on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis. A late registration fee of $25 applies to registration received after the posted deadline.
Financial Aid: The following two loans are available to graduate students registered for one or more credits. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents registered for at least one graduate credit. No school certification is required. Please apply directly to the loan company.
Special Note to New York City Teachers: The NYC Department of Education accepts New Perspectives courses for salary differentials. Bank Street programs and courses, including New Perspectives courses, are registered with the NY State Education Department. Bank Street is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Special Circular No. 7, 1980-81, issued by the NYC Board of Education, states: "Up to 6 credits of a combination of concentrated courses and weekend seminars may be earned in a semester. Such courses must be offered by regionally accredited institutions in the region where accredited, listed in their catalogues, taught by faculty members of the school, and certified by the school's registrars as being the equivalent of courses taught in a traditional format."
Courses with an SE course number will satisfy the NYC requirement for Special Education. The Human Relations requirement may be met with TE/N578, Multicultural Education Through the Arts. |
