 With funding from the
Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Annenberg Foundation, and the
Ford Foundation, Teachers for a New Era is a landmark grant initiative
whose goal is to strengthen K-12 teaching by researching and enhancing
the education of teachers.
Bank Street College is one of eleven institutions in the U.S.
selected to receive this five million dollar, five-year grant. This
reform initiative has established three guiding principles as critical
in the redesign of programs that prepare teachers:
Principle A: Decisions Driven by Evidence
Principle B: Engagement with the Arts and Sciences
Principle C: Teaching as an Academically Taught Clinical Practice Profession
Other considerations and aims of the grant include the following:
- recruitment of under-represented groups into teaching
- cultural considerations in teaching and learning
- effective use of educational technology
