Action-Oriented Inquiry Project (AOI) | Observation and Interview Study of Graduates (OIS) | SOLO Project (Structure of Observed Learning Outcome) | Surveys | Analysis of Achievement Test Score Data | 5Fridays
We have begun an annual analysis of the available test score data for pupils of our graduates working in New York City public schools. This portion of our inquiry efforts examines the relationship between Bank Street teacher education graduates in their first two years of teaching in New York City and the achievement of their pupils as measured through one year gain scores on the standardized assessments given by the New York City Department of Education.
We will be looking at one-year gain scores for pupils of Bank Street graduates of teacher education programs who are New York City public school teachers in grades 4-6. The investigation is limited to grades 4-6 as these are the grades in which standardized tests are given and "attribution" to teachers is possible. (Note: standardized test data will be gathered for the students in grade 3 to calculate their one-year gain score in grade 4).
It is important to note that this approach not only measures a small portion of our goals for children, but that we will also only be able to track a small percentage of Bank Street graduates (based on the availability of test score data and the number of Bank Street graduates working in New York City public schools). However, this effort will provide us a different type of data on the impact of Bank Street's programs, and in conjunction with our other assessment projects should help to inform and enhance the work we do in preparing high quality teachers for our schools.
