ART MATTERS
Wonder how aesthetic education differs from art education or art appreciation? Want to learn how aesthetic education can inspire us and offer new resources for teaching and learning in difficult times?
ART MATTERS is a new study group designed to explore these questions in an open-ended format. We'll co-create the agenda and modify it as needed. Here are some possibilities: Each of us might bring in an article or perhaps we≠ll explore one of Maxine Greene's books. Or, we could initially reflect on the impact of our own experiences with the arts and examine how we want to use these ideas with children. Alternatively, we might consider the influence of imagination, perception, and creativity on learning. Your own ideas are welcome!
If this sounds intriguing, please join us. An arts background is not essential, but bring it along if you have one.
ART MATTERS is open to Bank Street graduates as well as those who are close to graduation. The first meeting will be held at the College on Monday evening, April 24, 2006 from 7 to 9. Subsequent meetings will be held at times and locations determined by participants. An additional June session will take place at Bank Street for a final meeting of the minds of all of our peer discussion group participants.
This peer discussion group will be facilitated by Bank Street Graduate School faculty member Harriet Lenk. For additional information or to sign up for the group, contact Harriet at hlenk@bankstreet.edu or (212) 875-4580.
