Bank Street Online Fall 2009
BankStreetOnline launched this summer with two graduate-level courses. For Fall 09 we are offering non-credit learning opportunities all tied to Bank Street's developmental/interactionist philosophy. Our intended audience is: parents and other caregivers, students, and teachers. Our purpose is to provide our "students" with an improved understanding of children, and new insights into teaching and learning more generally. How are children motivated to learn? What learning environments and structures provoke curiosity? Can math be fun? What about informal learning, outside the classroom? These innovative workshops/courses offer essential information, both practical and scholarly.
At once collaborative and creative, the workshops/courses combine the latest technologies (multimedia, social networking, wikis, forums, blogs, and other web-based tools) in a very user-friendly environment. The workshops/courses are asynchronous, that is, participants work at times that suit them best; however, there will be firm weekly due dates for assignments. The course instructor will act both as a leader and a mentor, offering support, suggestions, and direction.
