First Annual Juneteenth Celebration

On Tuesday, June 19, 2007, the Priscilla E. Pemberton Society held its first Juneteenth Celebration with a spotlight on African American Quilting. Over 100 people attended the program, which displayed quilts by Edward Bostick and the Harlem Girls Quilting Circle. The program featured short talks by Edward Bostick and Lee Kogan, Curator of Special Exhibitions and Public Programming at the American Folk Art Museum. Lucia Jack, President of the Pemberton Society, was awarded Honorary Alumna status. The Pemberton Society is devoted to supporting Bank Street students and alumni of color through financial assistance and other services.
