Id Badge And Building Access
The purpose of having a security system at Bank Street is to help provide a safe environment for everyone, children and adults alike. As part of this system, Bank Street College employees, parents and adult students are asked to have a valid Bank Street ID card in their possession while at the College. Please remember that all employees must have their ID cards visible when on the floors occupied by Children’s Programs.
At the end of this statement is a brief summary, we ask that you keep that page handy for quick referral during the course of the academic year.
GUESTS
By having established procedures, we hope to provide members of the College Community and their guests a quick but effective means of entry that balances our desire to welcome guests while maintaining safety for everyone.
- Groups- (Known Visitors) For special events, programs or workshops that have a registration list, a person from the event or program will be required to be in the lobby to greet their guests and issue temporary ID badges. The person who is greeting guests must be presented with a photo ID to verify the visitor’s identification. If you are unable to have someone available to greet your guests then security personnel must be given the registration list and will issue a temporary ID. (Group members are not required to sign the guest book if they have a photo ID.)
- Groups- (Unknown Visitors) For special events, programs or workshops without a guest list, such as open houses, the hosting department must be present in the lobby to greet their guests. Please note that temporary passes are not required for these guests.
- Individual Visitors- Security shall be provided with a written advance list of visitors, preferably the day before the actual visit. The list must identify the visitor’s predetermined destination, the name of the staff person they are visiting, and that person’s or department’s phone number. These individuals will be required to show the security personnel a photo ID and the security personnel will register this guest into the log book and issue them a temporary ID pass. After the person has been cleared by security the individual expecting this visitor will be called to announce the arrival of their appointment. If the individual expecting the visitor does not answer their phone, the visitor will not be permitted pass the security desk until they can be reached by the security staff.
Note: If security is not provided with an advance list of visitors, then they will call the Bank Street employee the visitor wishes to meet. Only after Security has received an approval from the appropriate Bank Street employee will they ask for the visitors' photo ID, log them into the visitors' register, and issue them a temporary ID.
Issuance of ID Cards
Before an ID card can be processed the following information must be provided: the individual’s name, Jenzabar/CARS ID number, email address and divisional affiliation.
- EMPLOYEE ID CARDS
The Human Resources Office is responsible for contacting Physical Plant with any changes to the personnel roster such as new hires and terminations. A Jenzabar/CARS ID number must accompany any changes.
- GRADUATE STUDENTS
The Graduate School will provide Physical Plant with the dates for registration. During this registration period students will have this ID card photo taken. ID cards can usually be picked up at the security desk two days after the picture has been taken between the hours of 3PM to 9PM., Monday through Friday.
At other times, including late registration, students will receive a confirmation notice from the Registrar’s office. This confirmation is authorization to issue a photo ID card and should be presented to either the Guard or the designee at the Guard’s station. The Registrar can also notify Physical Plant via e-mail authorizing the issue of a Photo ID.
- GRADUATE SCHOOL ALUMNI (Library Patrons) and NYC Public School Teachers
All Alumni can use their Bank Street Library Associates Card to gain entry to the College. The Security Guard will enter the name into the visitor’s log and issue them a visitor’s pass. NYC Public School Teachers must show their NYC Department of Education ID. Once this ID is shown, s/he will register in the logbook and receive a temporary ID. For access to library privileges, please refer to instructions on the library’s webpage.
- GRADUATE SCHOOL ADJUNCTS
Each term the Graduate School will provide a list of adjuncts that will need to have ID cards and also provide the names of those whose ID card needs to be deactivated.
- GRADUATE SCHOOL CONSULTANTS
The Graduate School will determine which of their consultants require ID cards and will send authorization to Physical Plant. At the end of the consulting arrangement, Physical Plant should be notified in writing.
- CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS - NEW STUDENTS
The School for Children and Family Center will contact Physical Plant of any changes to its roster of students, (new and graduating), parents and guardians. Each July the Children’s Program and Physical Plant Departments will co-ordinate the dates for the taking of pictures and the issuance of the new ID cards.
- CHILDRENS PROGRAMS CONSULTANTS AND OTHERS
Children’s Programs will notify the Physical Plant Department which consultants and non-salaried individuals require an ID card.
- SUMMER CAMP
Since Bank Street students and families already have ID cards this section only applies to new members of the Bank Street community. For these individuals under the age of 10, no photo will be taken nor will they be issued an ID card. However, their parents and/or guardians will be issued a non-photo ID card. Cards issued to non Bank Street students, parents and guardians will automatically expire the day after the camp program concludes.
- CONTINUING EDUCATION
Liberty LEADS Program directors will contact Physical Plant with any changes to its student’s roster (new and graduated). The dates for taking photo IDs will be determined each year.
- Liberty LEADS program participants must present their Bank Street ID card to enter the building. If they do not have a Bank Street ID and their name fails to appear on the program roster they will not be permitted to enter the building until a supervisor from either the Liberty or I-LEAD program comes to the lobby and verifies the student is a participant in their program. Upon this verification then security will sign them into the security logbook.
Replacement Of Lost /Damaged Cards
If the picture of an individual fades on their ID card it will be replaced at no cost to the individual.
All other replacement cards will cost $5.00. However children in the Children’s Program and Liberty LEADS will have their second card replaced at no cost and $5 will be charged for the third card. The individual requesting a replacement card must make their payment in the Business Office, SFC Administration Office or at the Security Desk. Upon presenting a receipt a new card can be re-issued.
FORGOTTEN CARDS
If a student, parent or guardian has forgotten their ID card the security officer will ask the person their name and search the data base for that individual or refer the a program roster, if this is a I-Lead or Liberty participant. Once the person has been identified as a member of the Bank Street community, then the security guard is to write the individuals’ name in the guest book. If this is a persistent problem then the appropriate divisional administrator is to be notified.
