Bank Street Media Partnerships
Bank Street collaborates with several publishers to create a diverse range of developmentally appropriate books for children and the educators who work with children. This is a brief list of current publications for which Bank Street provides expertise:
-
The Voyages of the Mimi
- The Voyage of the Mimi and The Second Voyage of the Mimi are groundbreaking programs created by The Bank Street College of Education. They were among the first multimedia materials to use interactive technologies in an inquiry-based, integrated approach to teaching and learning for the middle grades, with an emphasis on science and mathematics. They consist of video, software, and print materials, including lesson plans, hands-on activities, and student-directed and collaborative projects.
The 13 video episodes of The Voyage of the Mimi take students and teachers on a scientific expedition to study whales. The 12 video episodes of The Second Voyage tell the story of archaeologists in search of a lost Mayan city. The videos consist of dramatic episodes paired with a related documentary-style "expeditions." The dramatic episodes present an exciting, reality-based adventure/drama. The expeditions visit real places to witness scientists at work, expanding on the science and math themes introduced in context in the dramatic episodes.
-
Bank Street Corner
- BankStreetCorner promotes the activities and expertise of Bank Street College to an external audience via the Internet.
The purpose of the Web site is three-fold:
- To reflect the unique treasures of Bank Street
- To advocate for progressive pedagogy
- To highlight projects and articles that illustrate our pedagogy in practice.
The Bank Street Corner showcases a sampling of exceptional projects from Bank Street College and highlights our acclaimed developmental-interaction approach.
The site is organized into six curricular sections: Social Studies, Reading, Science, Arts, Mathematics, and Early Childhood. Each section contains articles, vignettes, practical techniques and recommended books.
-
The Learning Network
- Based on news of the day as well as on archives from The New York Times, The Learning Network is the most comprehensive news and education resource on the Web. The site offers teachers of grades 3-12, as well as students and parents an innovative, interactive way to connect lessons learned in class to events that are changing the world. Bank Street has collaborated with the Times since 1998 to develop daily, thought-provoking lesson plans in a variety of subjects for students in grades 6-12. A daily snapshot feature is geared for children in grades 3-5.

AOL @ School
- Bank Street has several cross-links between The Bank Street Corner and AOL @ SCHOOL. Visitors to The Corner are primarily pointed to Bank Street articles on literacy at The Reading Corner.
