Getting Started
(Refer to What To Expect When Visiting Bank Street for more detailed information about the process.)
Important: Due to the large number of applications, the limited numbered of spaces, and our commitment to maintain a well balanced applicant pool, it is not possible to interview all families that apply even when an application has been submitted before the deadline. Some families whom we do not invite for an interview will be placed on a Wait List in case an interview slot becomes available. If your application is not processed by mid-February we will return your application fee.
Please note that the process varies depending upon the grade to which you are applying.
Step 1: Open House
RSVP for one of the three Open Houses that are scheduled in the fall. Reservations are strongly recommended since we are obligated to meet the maximum capacity space requirements.
Step 2: Submit Application Form by November 15, 2006
The Admissions Office will schedule a child visit after the Application Form is submitted. (Additional materials can be sent at a later date, but before the application deadline.)
The following steps apply only to applications that are processed. An application will be reviewed for a decision when all parts of the application process are complete.
Step 3: Child Visit and Classroom Observation for Parents
Children meet in small groups, while parents have an opportunity to sit in and observe several classes.
Step 4: Parent Interview
The parent interview is scheduled separately from the child's visit. These interviews are arranged at the time of the child's visit.
Step 5: Report and School Record from Current School
Complete and sign the Transcript Release Form and give it to your current school.
Step 5a: Applicants for the third grade (8/9s) through eighth grade (13/14s) must also send last year's school report as well as a corrected written school assignment from a current class.
Step 6: Testing
Formal admissions testing (ERB) is not required for applicants applying for pre-kindergarten (4/5s) through fourth grade (9/10s). Applicants applying to the fifth grade (10/11s) through eighth grade (13/14s) are asked to take the ERB or ISEE test administered by the Educational Records Bureau.

Step 7: Financial Aid Forms, if applicable
