Assistant Teachers

Assistant teachers are employed by their schools (usually independent, though in rare cases, public schools fund assistant teacher positions) five days a week, typically working full-time for the entire school year. As assistant teachers receive the salary offered by the school, they are responsible for obtaining their own positions, which must be approved by the Bank Street program director as a program-appropriate SFW/A setting.

Students must have the cooperation of the school's administration and of the head teacher. The Bank Street advisor will visit the students in their classroom settings, working in close collaboration with both the assistant teacher and the classroom's head teacher.

As needed, assistants will expand their supervised experiences to include work with diverse student populations, age ranges, and school environments, if these requirements are not met in their primary fieldwork setting.
