Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology "Membership in the Lab of Ornithology begins at $30 per year. Members receive four issues of Living Bird, four issues of Birdscope," etc. The Cornell Lab organizes a FeederWatch census of birds around the country. The Lab recruits amateur bird census takers and, in fact, celebrates amateur bird watcher contributions to scientific understanding of bird populations. Data from classroom feeders is welcome. It costs $15 to participate ($12 for Lab members). Other interesting programs include Project PigeonWatch and Project Tanager. Join the network!
311 Curtis Street The Institute is devoted to collecting and disseminating the work of Roger Tory Peterson. Nature education is part of the mission of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. Birds are an emphasis, though the Institute is interested in the broad spectrum of nature studies. The Institute has conducts a teacher training program around its Selborne Project. Membership brings you several interesting publications that may be useful in your curriculum.
The Journal of Field Ornithology welcomes original articles that emphasize the descriptive or experimental
study of birds in their natural habitats. Articles depicting techniques, emphasizing conservation, describing life
history, or assessing published studies or existing ideas are appropriate. The Journal is especially interested in
field studies conducted in the neotropics and those involving amateur participation.
This national list delivered, while I subscribed to it, approximately 15 to 40 messages per day. Requests for information
posted on this list will yield responses about birding sites around the country and in many parts of the words. One
follows interesting discussion threads about birding guides, equipment, offensive commercial advertising, etc. I
subscribe to this list periodically while I seek information about particular birding sites in other states.
NYS Birds listserve. To subscribe, send an e-mail message to listproc@Cornell.edu containing the message SUBSCRIBE. A greeting letter is sent to subscribers specifying list commands. This New York State list usually delivers a few messages per week, particularly, Rare Bird Alerts -- lists of rare bird sightings from five or six regions around the state. Two key lists for New York Metropolitan Area residents, are "NYC Area Rare Bird Alert" and "Lower Hudson Valley Bird Line."

The Monarch Watch is a network of teachers and scientists particularly interested in the Monarch butterfly. The MonarchWatch listserv connects all these people, enabling the network to monitor the Spring and Fall migrations of Monarch butterflies, between central Mexico and the United States and Canada.
