The Tiorati Workshop is a nature center and learning laboratory. At the Tiorati Workshop, we prepare you to include nature studies and environmental learning in your classroom program. The central experience of the program happens at our nature center in Bear Mountain State Park, but preparing you and your students starts before the visits, and the learning continues afterwards. We want the Tiorati experience to have a lasting impact on your classroom.

Four ways we turn learning on:

We teach teachers.

Tiorati courses and workshops teach content through inquiry. We ask you to reflect on your own learning experience and develop a teaching practice that is sensitive to the development of children and their differing learning styles.

You bring your students to Tiorati.

You bring your class to Tiorati during the school year. The learning experiences for children model an active inquiry approach where the study of the natural world is integrated across the curriculum.

We meet with you in your school to develop curriculum.

Children really learn to do science when they carry on active inquiries as part of their on-going classroom program. We support you to adopt the approaches you learn at Tiorati to your own classroom program. Together, we plan for classroom management, inquiries for children around science concepts, curriculum integration, and use of the outdoor resources of the school.

We involve parents.

We suggest how to involve parents in the programs at Tiorati. This is a wonderful way for classroom and home learning to connect.

We customize our program for your school.

Tiorati combines the components of its Program-for-Schools uniquely for each school district. We design teacher workshops and courses to meet your school district's needs.
