Akilah Rosado serves as Vice President for Governance and Community Engagement. In this role, Akilah supports the work of the Board of Trustees by ensuring that governance and fiduciary responsibilities are met. She also oversees government relations as well as strategic engagement and implementation of College’s social justice and equity initiatives. Akilah is able to leverage her relationships with key stakeholders at the city and state levels to articulate Bank Street’s role as a progressive educational institution.
Prior to joining Bank Street, Akilah worked at New York State Assembly serving as a Legislative Analyst, the Director of Constituent Affairs, and finally Chief of Staff. Upon leaving the Assembly, Akilah worked as a consultant with the Public Strategies Group, where she focused on leadership development, change management, and providing strategic coaching to staff and leaders working in government. Akilah has also served as an adjunct professor for Hudson Valley Community College, teaching leadership development and organizational behavior with an emphasis on social/emotional intelligence.
Akilah is in the process of pursuing her PhD in Urban and Public Policy from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at the New School, where she is examining the criminalization of Black girls in urban education through an intersectional lens that is inclusive of race, gender, and education. She received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Purchase and a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from Milano.
