John Jacobs

Equity Specialist, Center on Culture, Race & Equity

John Jacobs is an Equity Specialist with CCRE. John has served as a teacher, advocate, and leader in a variety of settings and locations. As an Alternative Education teacher in Virginia, and later a teacher of Opportunity Youth in the Bronx, NY John worked to create spaces of joy, healing, affirmation, and fulfillment. Passionate about eliminating systems of inequity, John has served as an Associate at NYU’s Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity & the Transformation of Schools, in partnership with NYSED, working to reform disciplinary systems that drive racially disproportionate suspensions, and special education classifications – most often impacting our Black & Latinx students. Most recently he has served as a Specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia where he worked to build the capacity of others – teachers, leaders, support personnel – to implement Culturally Responsive Education. John is a graduate of NYU Steinhardt, where he received an MA in Educational Leadership, Politics & Advocacy, and of Marshall University where he received a BA in Secondary Education.
