Laura Guarino is the first Associate Dean of Children’s Programs. She supervises the School for Children Admissions Process, Student Learning Supports, and the After School program. Additionally, she oversees the Family Center Inclusion Child Care Program and the Bank Street Summer Camp.
Laura has been at Bank Street College since 1980. She began as an Assistant Teacher in the Family Center where she was mentored by Amy Dombro, Early Childhood Developmentalist and renowned author. Laura credits her early years with Amy as formative in shaping her philosophy of education and her inquiry based approach to teaching, teacher training, and parent coaching. Laura has been privileged to work on behalf of young children and their families and as a teacher trainer at Bank Street College in the roles of Graduate School Advisor, School for Children Lower School Teacher, Summer Camp Director, Family Center Director, Associate Director of Admissions, and Lower School Division Head.
Laura holds a BS in Early Childhood Education and Social Work from the State University College at Buffalo and an MS in Parent and Infant Development from Bank Street College. The primary focus of her work has been the importance of a positive family-school partnership and the implications for early childhood growth and learning.
