Position Description:

Under direct supervision from the Manager and Assistant Manager of Bank Street Bookstore, this part-time employee is responsible for cash register activity, receiving, and assisting with maintenance of bookstore operations. He/She will be responsible for receiving incoming supplies, general books and merchandise sold in the Bookstore and for the return shipping of all books and/or merchandise/ supplies returned to publishers and vendors. Physical strength and agility are required to lift, carry, bend, stoop and move heavy boxes of books and merchandise. Positions require the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Performs related work.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides support to main receiver and assists with preparing and processing returns to publishers and vendors.
• Verifies the accuracy and inspects the condition of each shipment received by the Bookstore; may price merchandise/supplies and distribute to the proper area of the Bookstore;
• Establishes and maintains a high level of customer service in accordance with bookstore and college philosophy.
• Performs cashiering and check-out functions alone or as a team member.
• Supports off-site sales work as needed.
• Assists at in-store special events as needed.
• Participates in staff meetings.

Qualification Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent is required.
• Six months of shipping/receiving/warehouse experience is required.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Facility with cash registers.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and navigate in-store staircase.
• Flexibility to work on evenings, weekends and holiday periods as needed.
