Position Vacancy – Assistant Teacher, Middle School
(6 to 10-year-olds; grades 1-4)


1. Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Bank Street College for the 2018-19 school year.
2. Bachelor’s degree
3. Experience teaching children 6 to 10-years-old preferred


The assistant teacher will:
● Support the curriculum plans of the cooperating teacher, have opportunities to initiate and implement parts of the curriculum, and gradually assume increased responsibilities
● Help build a collaborative, cooperative, and reflective approach to working as a classroom teaching team
● Participate in the use of observing and recording methods, assessment practices, and management supports as related to individual children, small groups, and the whole class
● Gain skills and understanding of progressive education approaches supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth and development of particular age groups
● Develop skills and confidence in working with families, including aspects of home-school communication through emails, conferences, and report writing
● Attend and participate in weekly age-level planning meetings, support meetings, and faculty meetings after school
● Help design, organize, and maintain a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. This includes daily classroom morning set-up and evening clean-up.
