Position Vacancy - Director of High School Placement and Exmissions (Grades 5-8)

(Grades 5-8; 10-Month Position; Begins August 31, 2018)

The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a highly-organized, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Director of High School Placement & Exmissions. The Director reports to the Upper School Division Head and supports students and families applying out of grades 5-8. The Director needs to be personable, comfortable with adolescents & their families, collaborative with teachers, and able to build strong relationships inside and outside of the school. The Director is part of a team with the Upper School Division Head and Upper School Assistant, and must be immersed in various areas of the school in order to best understand and promote our students and culture.


Candidates should have/be:
• Bachelor’s degree and comparable experience; Master's degree desirable
• Excellent and demonstrated writing, editing, and communication skills
• Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office Suite, GDocs, and Adobe Suite are advantages)
• Detail-oriented and hard-working and have the ability to organize tasks with multiple parts
• Conscientious, courteous, and professional, maintaining confidentiality


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Understanding the high school application processes for independent, boarding, public, and parochial schools
• Educating, supporting, and preparing students and families for all aspects of these processes
• Establishing appropriate placement goals based on student achievement, teacher assessment, and family priorities
• Disseminating information relating to admissions events, standardized tests, and important deadlines
• Organizing visits by high school admissions officers
• Entering student data into DOE database and providing families with SHSAT and LaGuardia tickets as needed
• Reviewing all application materials to ensure quality, accuracy, and completion
• Ensuring that all applications and financial aid forms are fully completed and submitted on time
• Providing post-decision support and guidance to students and families as necessary
• Communicating throughout the process with students, families, and teachers
• Cultivating relationships with admissions offices, and becoming knowledgeable about school programs
• Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data pertaining to high school placement outcomes
• Presenting to families and attending Bank Street Open Houses, school fairs, ISAAGNY meetings and conferences
• Assisting families applying out before 8th grade through a limited process, including submitting qualifying 5th grade ERB scores to Hunter College High School
• Supporting the Admissions process for the modest number of students applying to the Upper School
• Attending to other duties as determined by the Upper School Division Head, especially during the months of January through June
