Bank Street Prepares for edTPA

Posted by Gretchen Adams on September 16, 2014

edTPAedTPA is a new assessment required for teacher certification designed to answer the question: "Is a new teacher ready for the job?" The performance-based assessment documents and demonstrates the ability of the teacher to formulate and teach lesson plans. Consisting of unedited video clips of instructions, lesson plans, student work samples, analysis of student learning, and reflective commentaries, the assessment takes the student teacher through the process of planning, execution and reflection – all necessary components that lead to effective teaching.

The Graduate School offers a number of workshops and resources to help along the way to completing the edTPA. From informational workshops that answer questions such as "What is edTPA?" and "When should I complete it?" to getting started with peer support workshops that aid in planning and portfolio preparation, there is something for everyone. Additionally, Bank Street graduate students can access a number of resources including: the Tk20 edTPA handbook; a sample permission letter for parents; information on accessing Tk20; how to register with Pearson; equipment, recording, and editing tips; a list of workshop dates; and where to go for help.
