Race to the Bottom Book Talk & Signing

Posted by Gretchen Adams on June 23, 2015

Race to the BottomOn April 30, Michael McGill, Director of the Program for District Leadership and Reform, a special initiative in the Graduate School, launched his book, Race to the Bottom: Corporate School Reform and the Future of Public Education, with a book signing and talk at Bank Street College. The book examines the emergence of corporate reform and his belief that its tenets run counter to high-quality education.

McGill has over 40 yeNonears experience as a school superintendent, including serving during the 2001 district-wide boycott of New York State standardized tests. Drawing on that experience, the book offers a model of school reform, which he touched on during his talk. He outlined resources to offset the effects of income equality, leadership, sharing a vision and building consensus among a diverse community, and creating an authentic partnership among government and educators to support new policy shifts. He ended the discussion looking forward to the schools of tomorrow to unleash the potential in all children, for that is what they deserve.

Race to the Bottom is available at the Bank Street Bookstore. Visit our new location at 2780 Broadway, at West 107th Street.
