Hip Hop, Remix & Political Discourse
The goal of this workshop is to use Popcorn to share a political POV and to kick off a new form of political discourse. Digital literacy is no longer defined as the consumption of content produced by others; it is the creation of new works, remixing and building upon peer products to rapidly share ideas and points of view. Moving away from traditional civics curricula, participants will discuss the use of memes, music, animated gifs, and video to generate youth-produced political statements. Using Mozilla Popcorn, participants will juxtapose topical images with popular culture and music, creating a political statement through mashup and remix that is both playful and powerful.
