A Training for ALL Parents Committed to Racial Justice

How do we have conversations about race or racism with our children?
How do we develop a positive racial identity in our children?
During the last year, many tragic events have put a spotlight on the racial injustices that continue to occur across the United States. How do we talk about these issues with our children, while also supporting a positive racial identity development and promoting racial justice? This training provides parents, guardians and caregivers with strategies on how to effectively address race and racism with their children. Through interactive activities and dialogue, participants learn how children see race, gain skills to approach age-appropriate conversations with a racial equity lens, and practice strategies to undo misinformation about race and reverse unconscious bias in children.
All trainings use interactive theater and adult learning techniques to collectively discuss the role of race in our lives, share personal experiences of critical moments with children, develop strategies for confidently and effectively entering into conversations about race with children, and practice what to say when tough situations arise.
This workshop is the continuation of the first one from October 17. Participants will have more opportunities to learn and practice strategies for speaking about race with their children. If you were unable to attend the first workshop, don’t worry, as that will not preclude you from the learning opportunities of this workshop.
