Event Description

We welcome author Adam Eichen SFC ’07 back to Bank Street on Wednesday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. to speak about democracy to the Bank Street community. Adam is currently a democracy fellow at the Small Planet Institute in Cambridge, MA. Before that, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Political Science (Sciences Po) in Paris.

Adam’s first book, Daring Democracy, coauthored with Frances Moore Lappé (Beacon Press, September 2017) is about democracy in America and the movement to revitalize it.Adam has written articles for numerous outlets such as billmoyers.com, Huffington Post, In These Times, and Yes! Magazine. In our efforts to hold true to Bank Street’s values, and condemn words and actions that stand counter to the founding mission and vision of Bank Street, we are thrilled to present this evening with Adam.

“I started attending the School for Children when I was three years old and I attribute much of my success in high school (Friends Seminary), college (Vassar College), and beyond to my time at Bank Street. Moreover, learning by doing and developing critical thinking skills—both cornerstones of my Bank Street education—led me into the field of politics as a writer and activist.

In terms of civic competency, Bank Street also prepared me more than any other institution I attended. Here I learned to consume news with an eye for truth and to fight for what I believe in. For that I am forever grateful." --Adam Eichen
