“Incorporating Speech and Language Techniques in the Classroom”
Phyllis Fabricant, a licensed speech and language therapist, will present on disorders and delays in both receptive and expressive language. She will explore effective activities for the classroom and how teachers and Speech-Language Pathologists can collaborate to help children reach their full potential.

11:15 AM – 1:00 PM
Guests will choose two 45-minute breakout sessions:

  • The Importance of Hellos and Goodbyes: The Tools to Use for Opening and Closing
Facilitators: Nicole Gellar, MSEd and Rebecca Thomas, MSEd
The value of a goodbye book is just as important as how you initially enter the child’s world when you first get assigned a SEIT case. In this workshop, we will examine some tools to use to enhance your practice in anticipation of these important transitions.
  • Celebrating the Scribble: Supporting Children Who Say, “I Can’t Draw!”
    Facilitator: Krista Wilbur, MSEd
In this workshop we will discuss ways to support children who struggle with drawing and writing.  We will examine ways to adapt tasks, supports to deal with frustration and meltdowns, as well as how to use children’s books to help demystify drawing.
  • Sensory Materials and Fidget Toys
    Facilitator: Maria Richa, MA/EdM
In this hands-on workshop, we will focus on the important role sensory materials play in the social, emotional and intellectual development of children. We will have the opportunity to make a fidget toy to take home!
