Join Shael Polakow-Suransky, GSE ’00, President, Bank Street College of Education, for a conversation with Dr. John B. King Jr., President, The Education Trust, and Dr. Pamela Cantor, Founder and Senior Science Advisor, Turnaround for Children, to learn how the latest findings in neuroscience research can shape our understanding of childhood learning and development to inform the redesign of classrooms across the country and support the success of all students. Discussions will explore the power of relationship and context in teaching and learning, recent scientific research on human learning and development, system-wide change with a focus on equity and the whole child, and the importance of deep community partnerships.

Meet Our Speakers:

John B. King Jr. Dr. John B. King Jr. is president of The Education Trust, a national nonprofit organization that seeks to identify and close educational opportunity and achievement gaps. King began his career as a high school social studies teacher and middle school principal, before serving as New York State Education Commissioner and US Secretary of Education in the Obama administration.
Pamela Cantor Pamela Cantor, MD, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, is an author and thought leader on human potential, the science of learning and development, and educational equity. She founded Turnaround for Children, which translates scientific insights into tools and services that help educators establish conditions for all students to thrive.
Shael Polakow-Suransky Shael Polakow-Suransky, GSE ‘00, is president of Bank Street College of Education and an advocate for education as a means to build a more just and democratic society. Bank Street works with school systems across the country to provide professional development and talent pipelines for new teachers and principals. Prior to this role, he was the second-in-command at the New York City Department of Education, serving as Deputy Chancellor in the Bloomberg administration. Earlier in his career, Polakow-Suransky worked as a teacher and founding principal of Bronx International High School. He is the first alum to serve as Bank Street’s president.
