The Betsy Blachly Fund for Songs and Singing

Provide children with meaningful opportunities to learn and grow through song and dance.

Betsy BlachlyBetsy Blachly, former Head Music Teacher at the School for Children, has helped generations of School for Children and Family Center students enjoy the rich history of song and dance rooted in Traditional Folk Music. She is able to deeply engage children physically, lyrically, and musically through a wide range of songs that have become perennial favorites, such as “Revel My Friends” (Silber/Soll) and “Goodbye Ol’ Paint.”

But what makes a song stick around through the years? The answer is simply that children, families, and alumni keep them alive. Like a familiar friend, our voices and bodies respond with enthusiasm and memory each time Betsy strums her guitar and begins a familiar song.

This fund will honor Betsy’s legacy in creating wonderful music that has created a spirit of community and inclusion throughout Bank Street. Funds raised will support music curriculum and enrichment in Bank Street Children’s Programs.
