Xiaohan Zhu

Research Assistant, Straus Center for Young Children & Families

Xiaohan works on Sarika Gupta’s Racial and Gender Equity for Young Children with Disabilities in New York City study. She is a doctoral student at Fordham University in the Contemporary Learning and Interdisciplinary Research program. Xiaohan’s research is informed by her immigration, cross-cultural, and Interdisciplinary background. She is passionate about understanding the ecology of human development in immigrant families, uplifting the strengths and assets of the local communities, and how cultural-based family practices would inform educational policies. Her current work accentuates the impact of grandparents on holistic child development in New York City’s Chinese community in the digital era. She earned her B.A. in Media and Communication from the Communication University of Zhejiang in China and an M.S.Ed from the University of Miami, Education and Social Change program. Before joining Bank Street, she was a journalist, interpreter, preschool teacher, and media editor.
