As we continue to navigate the evolving situation around COVID-19 and follow guidelines to protect the health and safety of our community, Bank Street has gathered several resources and other information below that may be helpful to faculty and staff during this time. This page will be updated with additional details as appropriate.

    Transcript Hello colleagues,

    I’m Shael Polakow-Suransky, President of Bank Street College of Education. In September, Governor Hochul announced that COVID-19 has been designated as an airborne infectious disease. This designation initiated New York State’s HERO Act, which passed earlier this year and requires employers to adopt a workplace safety plan to help prevent the spread of airborne infectious diseases like COVID-19. Since the onset of the pandemic, Bank Street has worked to develop strong health and safety policies that are aligned with guidelines from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the local Department of Health and informed by feedback from a range of experts, including doctors, architects, and engineers. Additionally, our policies are in compliance with New York’s HERO Act standards and will help preserve the health and safety our community through multiple layers of protection. You can access our plan for this school year by visiting the COVID-19 Resources section of the Faculty & Staff Resources page on our website. This page also includes additional resources and information related to COVID-19 that you might find useful. I’m going to share my screen so you can see how to get there. You go to your account and click here to Faculty & Staff Resources. Then you go to COVID-19 Resources and this is where you find the Health & Safety Plans.     Bank Street has developed strong health and safety policies that are aligned with guidelines from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the local Department of Health and informed by feedback from a range of experts, including doctors, architects, and engineers.   • Vaccine Information

    Bank Street faculty and staff members are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including having the booster if eligible, or have an exemption in place. In addition, all staff are required to receive the bivalent booster (targeting Omicron variants) and submit appropriate documentation by January 1, 2023 or have an exemption in place. Please submit documentation of your vaccination through Oracle as soon as possible following the instructions in this step-by-step guide (pdf).

    • Visit our website for more information on counseling support services offered on our employee assistance program through GuidanceResources.
    • Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the “COVID-19 Archives: Sharing Reflections and Resources Project,” an effort led by the Library to collect and catalogue artifacts that capture how pandemic has impacted our work and life. For more information and instructions on how to submit an artifact, view this email that went out to the community.
    • Emotionally Responsive Practice at Bank Street has developed resources that may be useful for teachers, caregivers, and others looking for ways to enhance the social-emotional element of their online work with children.
    • For those working with students, this resource from Teaching Tolerance may provide some helpful guidance as you consider some of the ways racism and bias could show up in remote classroom settings.
