John H. Niemeyer was appointed the first official president of Bank Street in 1956 and is widely credited with Bank Street’s evolution into an influential resource in the field of education.

Dr. Barbara Biber, a central figure who shaped Bank Street, was a keen observer of children and classrooms who immersed herself in the phenomena of children’s and teachers’ lives.
