In celebration of Pride Month, Library Salon #40 explores Bank Street’s rich queer history and its connection to the present moment. Featuring current and former faculty Margie Brickley and Jonathan Silin, librarians Peter Hare and Grace Handy, and including parents Roz Lee and Andrea Ortega-Williams and former SFC teacher Ro Peña.

About Our Panelists

Margie Brickley, GSE ’89 is a Graduate School faculty and advisor. She is the coauthor of several publications about queer families online and in print including the Families chapter in Anti-bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves.
Gio Capone is the Director of Community Building and Inclusive Affairs at Bank Street’s Graduate School of Education. As an educator, he values building meaningful relationships and collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff across the organization, working together toward a shared commitment to embedding equity in all we do. He is also a PhD student in higher and post-secondary education at Teachers College.
Grace Handy is the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian at Bank Street, working to increase access to the archives and preserve and expand the College’s collections. With a dual master’s degree in Library Science and History from Queens College, CUNY, Grace currently also teaches information literacy at Queens College and does archival work for The City University of New York and with Librarians and Archivists with Palestine.
Peter Hare is the reference librarian at Bank Street College of Education. He is a former SFC parent affinity group co-chair, and parent to a rising high school senior.
Roz Lee is a former School for Children parent affinity group leader.
Andrea Ortega-Williams is the School for Children LGBTQA+ affinity group co-chair.
Ro Peña, GSE 20′, former SFC teacher and founder of Trans formative Schools.
Jonathan Silin GSE ’70, is a former Graduate School faculty member and former editor-in-chief of the Occasional Paper Series.
