Guidelines for Writing Reviews

A review from a Young Reviewer (YR) shares the child’s opinion of the book—it is not a book report or plot summary. The CBC encourages children to share what they liked or didn’t like about the book and why, as well as a recommended age range and an overall rating. If there are pictures in the book, we ask for comments about them and how they complement the written part of the text. Video reviews are also welcome. Samples of written reviews can be seen in the monthly “Pick of the Month” section.

For reviewers age 0-7 there is a separate review form, and video or audio submissions are also welcomed.

Each time a review is submitted, using the Review Form, a Young Reviewer will receive email notification. We encourage individual YRs, teachers and their classes, and librarians to sign up. A certificate of thanks, recognizing participation in the program will be sent by mail in May.
