As policymakers, educators, and parents continue to rethink how we support and evaluate teachers in our nation’s public schools, President Shael Polakow-Suransky weighed in on the debate today with a New York Times op-ed titled “Teach Your Teachers Well.”

In the editorial, President Polakow-Suransky reminds us that teachers are also learners. He advocates for public funding of high-quality teacher training, more time for teachers to collaborate, authentic assessments, and increased autonomy for principals as key steps to help build a system of professional supports in our schools. As he writes,

“In schools, the way adults learn always defines the way the students learn. Schools need to nurture our students and our teachers.”
