Recognizing Legacy Gifts to Bank Street

The Lucy Sprague Mitchell Society honors generous individuals who have included Bank Street College of Education in their estate plans. These legacy gifts reflect a deep and lasting commitment to the values of progressive education, great teaching, and the transformative power of learning.

In the words of Bank Street founder Lucy Sprague Mitchell, “We see in education the opportunity to build a better society.” By becoming a member of the Lucy Sprague Mitchell Society, you’ll join a community of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends who share a powerful vision: that education is the key to a better, more just world.

Your legacy will ensure that the next generation of educators and learners continues to thrive at Bank Street and beyond.

Simple Ways to Make a Lasting Gift

There are many ways to leave your legacy at Bank Street—some of which cost nothing during your lifetime:

  • Bequests
Include Bank Street in your will or living trust by designating a specific amount, percentage, asset, or remainder of your estate.
  • Beneficiary Designations
Name Bank Street as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), Donor Advised Fund (DAF), bank accounts, life insurance policy, or other financial accounts. This is often as easy as completing a form.
  • Gifts from Retirement Assets
If you’re age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free qualified charitable distribution (QCD) of up to $108,000 annually  from your IRA to Bank Street.
  • Other Types of Gifts
Legacy gifts can be made through cash, securities, real estate, closely-held stock, retirement funds, or life insurance. We’re here to help you and your advisors find the best option for your financial goals and philanthropic vision.
